... seedling notes and a visiting helper

This week we've had a fantastic extra helper called FareBear - he travelled up from Preston on the food delivery van and helped us get food bags ready for everyone yesterday. He's here all week having a trip around local food clubs in South Lakes and then goes back to Preston on the delivery van from Grange next Monday.

Whilst at Flookburgh he had a good look at the seedlings out on the table, his favourite were the peas - what was yours?

The seedlings were:
- Onions - long red Florence Italian Heirloom. Perfect for salads or pickling (shallot shaped) - pull as young spring-type onion, or leave in the ground for around 60 days to mature - how to grow onions
- Peas - Hurst green shaft - cut young shoots for pea tops in salads, or allow to grow (with support) to harvest peas and pods - how to grow peas
- Sprouting radish greens - (grow like cress) - these are classed as superfoods! More info here
- Tomatoes - how to grow
- Cucumber - Marketmore, organic, more info here
- Spinach - as earlier post, see here

Pots made of paper?
You might have noticed that many of the seedlings are growing in newspaper pots - it's a great way of avoiding plastic and uses up old newspaper too - there's info here about how to make them!

Happy growing
